Just recently me an my husband have made the decision to turn our lives around. We have a one year old daughter and we want to make sure that we do everything in our power to make sure that she is healthy and happy. But in order to do that we have to be healthy ourselves. We have sworn off soda and are trying our best to avoid greasy and fat ridden food.
In order to do this we have stopped eating at many fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Burger King, Arbys, and KFC). We have also bought a cookbook that teaches us how to cook our own meals with foods that are healthy for us. Because of this we are both losing weight and feeling great.
Because we all should have a healthy lifestyle I have decided to pass on my newfound wisdom to you!
When cooking in a healthy manner you are going to have to measure the oil that you cook with. You can no longer just pour it straight out of the bottle and hope that you didn’t use too much. Moderation is the key.
Using non stick skillets and cookware means that you don’t have to worry about using fat. Instead you can use chicken broth or wine.
What many people do not know is that the majority of fruits and vegetables store nutrients in their skins. Next time you are making mashed potatoes keep the skins on them.
A salad can be very delicious if you are using the right ingredients. Start off by switching from iceberg lettuce to romaine lettuce. Romaine has three time more Vitamin C and six times more Vitamin A.
The only negative thing about cooking with low fat foods is that you will lose some of the flavor that you are used to and that you enjoy. The great way to fix this is to use spices. Spices are full of flavor and can fix anything.
When you are making a meal in which you are cooking the meat and veggies together add more veggies than meat. Vegetables are obviously healthier for you.
